Acoustic Cabaret

Music by guitarist Phil Weaver

Guitarist Phil Weaver will perform a variety of solos ranging from Latin American and Spanish flamenco to avant-garde and Celtic. Featured on the program is a set with Arthur Wesley on congas and other percussion instruments with sambas by Villa-Lobos and Cardoso, two Venezuelan waltzes by Lauro, a tango by Astor Piazzolla, and a Cuban dance by Leo Brouwer.

Phil Weaver is known for innovative programming and performances. Recent collaborations include concerts with violinist Isabel Trautwein of the Cleveland Orchestra, a concerto with the Huntsville Youth Orchestra, and a cabaret style concert with blues guitarist Microwave Dave Gallaher. The first guitarist in Alabama to win a State Arts Council individual artist's fellowship, Phil Weaver has performed in England for the Nonesuch Guitar Society, was a guest artist with the Westport Madrigal Singers in Connecticut, and is the founder and artistic director of the City Lights and Stars Concert Series at Burritt on the Mountain. His work with pianist Ingrid von Spakovsky in the guitar-piano duo Consonare includes a New York City recital debut, performances at Hofstra University's International Artists' Series, a tour of England, and a CD on ACA Digital. He is also assistant adjunct professor of music for UAH, where he directs the guitar program.

Arthur B. Wesley II, percussion, is on the faculty at Alabama A&M University where he serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands. He has been timpanist with the Decatur Chamber Orchestra and the Huntsville Chamber Orchestra
